Dish’s Gen Mobile launches new prepaid plans

Dish’s Gen Mobile, the prepaid MVNO that Dish acquired a year ago, launched four new rate plans intended to provide budget-conscious consumers with more options.

The lowest priced plan costs just $20 per month and includes unlimited talk and text (including unlimited global texting) and 3 GB of high-speed data. There is also a $30 per month plan that includes unlimited talk and text and 7 GB of high-speed data, a $30 per month plan that includes unlimited talk and text and 16 GB of high-speed data and a $50 per month plan that includes unlimited talk and text and unlimited data with up to 10 GB of mobile hotspot data. The plans will use both 5G and 4G LTE data.

“Our plans provide great savings to our customers. With inflation being out of control, we want to help our customers keep more of their hard-earned cash,” said Robert Yap, founder of Gen Mobile.

However, Gen Mobile’s new rate plans do come with some caveats. For example, the plans do not include domestic or international roaming. Plus, the mobile hot spot and tethering capability is subject to data plan limits. After the allotted data is used, speeds are reduced to 128 kbps.

The MVNO was purchased by Dish Network in September 2021 and runs on T-Mobile’s network. Gen Mobile caters to consumers that qualify for the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), which provides a discount of up to $30 per month toward internet service for eligible households. Gen Mobile’s ACP plan provides unlimited talk and text and 7 GB of data monthly to those that qualify.
